Hello. My Rail King Empire State Express locomotive does not operate correctly. When I apply power to the engine, the steam release and hissing sounds come on. When I either press the direction button on my transformer or open then close the throttle, a rapid chugging sound is emitted but the engine does not move forward. I have tried resetting the Proto Sounds to the factory settings and have replaced the battery in the tender both to no avail. Can anyone offer and suggestions to try and remedy this problem? Many thanks!!

The chuffing is voltage based on PS1 locos, so increasing the throttle will make it chuff faster. The board is getting power, so I suspect that one of the motor pins in the socket in the loco has a bad solder connection, a motor lead broke off, or the motor seized. Pull the loco shell (4 screws) and inspect the wiring, touch up the 4 pin connections with a pencil soldering iron and test the motor with a DC power supply (tender harness disconnected.)
Thanks for the prompt reply. Unfortunately, the remedy sounds a bit beyond my technical skills. Can you or anyone recommend an MTH authorized repair center in the New York City metro area? Thanks!
Hi I have fixed many engines for people in New York and would be glad to help you, I don't believe it would not be very expensive and would go over lubricating the engine and change traction tires etc. if necessary . Alan
Hi Alan, sounds good! Where are you located?
