Hello, new to the forum, so my question might already exist.
How can you distinguish what version of Proto sound your engine has? Surely there are identifiable markings or items.
I have two engines that are from the crossover Proto 1 to 2 era.

Charging port is PS2. If you have model numbers, you can look them up on MTH site. You can also try searching the cab number on MTH.

If your loco runs conventional mode only (not DCS compatible), it is PS1. If it is DCS compatible and has a battery, it is PS2.
Interesting. Next question, are there any upgrade kits available? Such as NOS PS 2.
There are PS/3 upgrade kits that will upgrade steam or diesel PS/1 locomotives.
Where can these kits be purchased? Seemingly, they are had to find?
