Is there different horns and crew talk with a proto sound 1 diesel engine or are they all basically the same?

There were several variations of PS1. For example, single chime horns on F3's and multi-chime horns on 2nd generation diesels. Also, earlier PS1 did not have the PFA feature and I don't recall the earliest versions having crew talk.
The horn on my P1 C30-7 was spot on like the horns on NS C30-7 locomotives. Not sure of the type of horn but it was a distinctive sound. Different from all other MTH units I have. That locomotive unfortunately was one that became a dummy due to repeated problems. I really would like to be able to have that horn on one of my NS locomotives.
Just like current MTH locomotives, the PS-1 equipped locomotives had locomotive unique sounds. If you open one up you will see a sticker with the sound set on the sound chip. A GP38 will sound different than a SD40, which will be different from a F3.
The PFA on some is quite unique. The Shay had "Lumber Yard Sounds" for trees being cut down, sawmill, etc. It's a neat sequence.

What does PFA stand for? And can you tell if a PS1 engine has PFA by looking at the label on the box?

Passenger/ Freight announcements
Proto freight?

The box will say.
Look at this box's label, bottom right in purple. For passenger locomotives it'd replace Freight Yard with Passenger.
