PS-2 sound issue

Had a similar issue a while back with a ps2 diesel.  I ended up replacing the speaker and it's been fine ever since.  

Todd advice is good to check speaker, especially if this is the 16ohm version in the PS-2 5V engines.  If it is flaking replace it.  The other item is a fresh charged (good battery).  If yours is the older white battery for the 5V boards, replace it.  G

Swapped out speaker with a known working one with the same result. Battery tests good. Any ideas on a next step?

GGG set model# 30-4056-1 Yes using DCS and can scroll volume with remote with no luck and yes on the shutdown sounds when turning off power.

 

Gunrunnerjohn Dont get the Lansdale way much but have heard all good about service there. Was told its the place to go when I want to get my Dads 1955 GG1 serviced.

 

As you know $ is tight  this time of year will have to save my pennies to get this one out for repairs.

Bill,  This is the 5V model with board in the engine.  Last thing to check is making sure the 12 pin plug in the front of the board is pushed in all the way, then with the tether plugged into the engine, make sure you have good continuity from the 2 speaker wires (should be Yel&Wht) through the harness and to the PCB solder pads on the back of the engine frame.  Probably is pins 9 and 10 with Yel and Wht wires going to the 12 board connector.  May be a high resistance in the harness, or a cracked solder joint on the PCB.  Carefully resoldering those pin connections on the PCB (not the actual solder pad the wire is on, but the pin protrusion near it and connected via a trace could restore full volume.

 

I think this was a fix for your exact model I had several years ago.  Those outside pins take the stresses when the engine goes through curves and sometimes the solder joint breaks. G
