you may also try a warm white 3mm LED in series and in proper polarity with a 150 ohm or more quarter watt resistor.

I don't recommend using a voltmeter.  The MTH PS2 lighting signal is a so-called pulse-modulated signal (rather than a simple DC voltage) and voltmeters will not give you an accurate reading of the equivalent bulb voltage.

The answer is 6V for an incandescent filament bulb.  Or do what Dale suggests with an LED.

Dale, thanks for the suggestion but I do not think LED's look proper in steam engines so I really prefer incandescent bulbs.

John, I did try using a voltmeter and got a reading of something like 24 to 28 volts and knew that could not be correct.

This is a great forum and I really appreciate the wealth of knowledge as well as the willingness to share it.
