I turned my breaks off in my PS1. I couldn't deal with the sound.
when ever your train slows downs the brakes will squeal..even if your running one steady speed..if the power drop down=slight slow temperary slow down the brakes will squeal..does that to my 3rd rail PRR S1 duplex.steam engine...id put mth proto 1 system in it for time being..
Landon,
A feature reset 45 using the MPG softkey.
Landon,
If I remember correctly P1 engines are not compatible with the DCS at all. You must be running conventional from your remote.
If Chris turned his sound off he did something special and probably shut all the sound to his engine down. Maybe Barry knows some trick to accomplish what you want, can't help you on this one buddy.

I tried that and all of the lights on my layout started to flicker
Landon,
That's how it works to program PS1 engines. Just let it do it's thing to get to feature 45. (To get 45 with a transformer you must work the throttle up to high voltage and back to low voltage 45 times)
It's much easier using the DCS remote, trust me.
At the last you should hear 9 clanks and 0 clinks.
You need 3 dings to turn off the Brakes.

Dave,
I'm sure it's in Barry's book some where and it's going to say the same thing.

This is pretty far from the truth. DCS can control feature settings via the TR button and the soft keys.
SR Chris turned off the squealing brake feature not the sound.
Landon just got gun shy when the voltage started to go up and down.
F&G,
We are saying the same thing in 2 different manners, in reality the P1 is not a DCS engine, it must be controlled conventinally thru the TR function of the hand held remote, and only certain engine functions work in this manner. In some engines you can not lower the sound unless you turn the sound off completely. I can not remember how to advise him as to what to use inside the soft keys, some things work some do not. P1 is not a DCS controlled engine.

Guys,
Landon is running the PS1 engine with the DCS remote so I think he knows it doesn't run in command and is already using the variable channel to run it I believe.
He wanted to turn off the Squealing brakes by using the handheld. I put him on that path on his other thread.
Sound volume is controlled on PS-1 engines via a pot under the tender or by using the feature settings.
The handheld along with a Z-4000 talk too a PS-1 engine by changing the track voltage.
