PS2 5v sound issue..

I have a board like it, changed a few caps and still no clearing static.  Replaced Audio and still no go.  Processor or some components are failing and inducing the static.

If MTH has an upgrade of the original sound file you can go to the 3V and the sounds are the same.  They just reformat to the 3V file type.  Best to go that route, before the 3V boards no longer available.  G

Is this the Blue comet or a different road name?

Here is MTH page on Bantam 4-6-2.  Plenty of 3V upgrade sound files made that are exact reproductions of the original 5V.  If yours is not showing and email to servide can provide it.  G

If you go to the older site I provided and click on service and files and documents, you can type in your model # and get the specifics available for your model.  If the upgrade icon is highlighted, you can down load that sound file, and you will have your original 5V sounds in a 3V format.  G

Yes, just be careful not to damage pins.  Also change speaker to 4 ohm with 3V and change battery to 2.4V with 3V boards.  Don't want to put a 9V battery on the 3V processor boards.  G

My opinion is MTH, but other talk about using higher quality speakers.  The problem is size of those speakers.

Good news is 4 ohms are easier to come by then 16 ohms as most audio amps seem to be going with lower impedance speakers now a days.

If you have an old PS-1 8 ohm or Lionel 8 ohm, though they are typically lower quality, the db difference in output won't be as bad as the 16 ohm will be.

MTH BF-0000034 is a good 50mm dia 17mm tall 4 ohm speaker that would be used n the 3V version of your engine.  Your engine may even have a baffle cover??  G

So far no.  More robust and easier to component repair vice replace.  Plus 2 piece so only the bad board needs to be replaced.  G
