Ps2 Y6B No sounds -help!

if it's the original speaker in  it replace it. The 16 ohm original speakers go bad over the years.

Do a feature reset

He did a feature reset with no change.  I would try a factory reset, but that requires a DCS system.

I would examine the speaker as Paul mentioned to see if the magnet is flaking.  Depending on how much, you can get some sounds, though not all sounds.

He needs to change the speaker, he has bell and whistle so the sound amp is working. Factory reset or feature reset at this point isn't going to help. Mike if you need one, hit my email and let me know and I will ship the correct replacement to you my friend. Mike the new speaker will amaze you with the sounds since you probably have been running with a flaking speaker the entire time.

I bought a MTH engine awhile back quite cheaply that the seller was ranting about how bad the MTH sounds were compared to Lionel. I replaced the old 16 ohm speaker and the sounds were restored. Did a short video and sent it to the seller, needless to say he regretted selling it.

Could the engine sound been turned off? When you press eng sound on the DCS remote it will only play horn and bell or whistle and bell. You can still hear the speaker making noises at shutdown as described.

Make sure the engine sounds and the background sounds are not turned down in the sound menu as well.

If you can hear the bell and whistle then the speaker most likely not the issue. 

I see this same condition on occasion after using the e-stop on the remote.  Start up the Loco and first follow Liam's suggestion, then Mountain's. One or both of their fixes should restore full sounds.

The speaker is exactly the only issue the poster has. It is a well documented problem with the original 16 ohm speakers that MTH used in their 5V PS-2 systems. Been discussed numerous times on this Forum. Got a speaker on it's journey to Merry Ol' England for Mike.

Paul, You maybe right, but I don't think I would be so definitive.  Why chuff and startup sounds are missing could also be effected by DCS settings, let alone the quad amp that controls Whistle, horn, chuff and smoke puff.  Nothing to lose doing a DCS Engine reset, to see if full sounds restored.  G

With out getting into to much further discussion my new speaker arrived from over your way (thank you Paul!)and everything is now just fine.

Not only is everything just fine BUT the sounds overall are just so much better - Brilliant!!

Glad to help Mike. It's the speaker that causes the sound problems on 5V systems 99% of the time if it's the ORIGINAL speaker.
