Hi Everyone,

My Railking Y6b is acting up again. I ran it last night on a friends layout  - we were using DCS ( I normally run conventional) He was having signal problems and whilst my engine ran fine it started acting up - speeding up, not responding to comands etc as did my pals engines.

I am now left with an engine that runs fine, smokes, has bell and whistle BUT has no start up or shut down sounds or chuffing sounds under movement. Its an early 5v board model

I have checked for loose wires and connections but can't see anything obvious.

I tried a whistle and 5 bells reset which was accepted with the 2 whistle reponse but still no sounds. You can however hear static at the speaker and curtainly on shut down the static sound continues after the engine is switched off in just the same way as the sounds once continued.

Just to re-cap - Whistle and Bell are fine so speaker and its wiring must be ok.

Any suggestions would be welcome - thanks.

He needs to change the speaker, he has bell and whistle so the sound amp is working. Factory reset or feature reset at this point isn't going to help. Mike if you need one, hit my email and let me know and I will ship the correct replacement to you my friend. Mike the new speaker will amaze you with the sounds since you probably have been running with a flaking speaker the entire time.

I bought a MTH engine awhile back quite cheaply that the seller was ranting about how bad the MTH sounds were compared to Lionel. I replaced the old 16 ohm speaker and the sounds were restored. Did a short video and sent it to the seller, needless to say he regretted selling it.

I see this same condition on occasion after using the e-stop on the remote.  Start up the Loco and first follow Liam's suggestion, then Mountain's. One or both of their fixes should restore full sounds.

The speaker is exactly the only issue the poster has. It is a well documented problem with the original 16 ohm speakers that MTH used in their 5V PS-2 systems. Been discussed numerous times on this Forum. Got a speaker on it's journey to Merry Ol' England for Mike.

Paul, You maybe right, but I don't think I would be so definitive.  Why chuff and startup sounds are missing could also be effected by DCS settings, let alone the quad amp that controls Whistle, horn, chuff and smoke puff.  Nothing to lose doing a DCS Engine reset, to see if full sounds restored.  G
