Hey Guys,
I looked and looked quite a bit on the web and could not find this. I also have a Kalmbach book that describes/identifies many, many models of Lionel locomotives from the 50's and 60's.
I opened up my Lionel 1862 General. I noticed on the top of the motor, on the electrical tab that powers the head lamp, it says oil. Where does that oil go, how much do I use and what type of oil should I use?

BTW - I could not find anything in the Kalmbach book either. It describes the 1862 locomotive, but does not say anything about greasing the gears or putting oil in the engine.

This is a 622 style motor. There is a wick under that tab at the top of the armature shaft, soak it with a modern synthetic oil. The bottom of the armature should use the same oil, dribble it down the shaft between the armature poles to get the lower oilite bushing.
