I have had mixed results from Micromark.  The last pin vise I  purchased from them which had the metal swivel top like the one you showed, GRJ, danced like a hula dancer when I used it.  Does the General Tools pin vise handle bits from #40 to #80?  Does it drill straight or dance like the hula dancer I mentioned?  I may try the General Tools one.  The second one looks nice but if it is a dud, return shipping, etc will make it an expensive mistake.

Thanks,

Ed

Mine drills straight as a string, I love it!  It has four sizes of collets stored in the shaft and handles all the bit sizes.  I use it with a wide variety of drill sizes.  This is my go-to tool for starting holes in plastic shells, I can precisely locate a starter hole before breaking out the heavy guns.

I liked the look of the brass one, but as you say, what if it's bad.  OTOH, if I get something defective from the Far East, they rarely insist that it be sent back.

I picked a couple up like these at the last Greenberg show I went to:

Very good quality, excellent jaws.  I have one with the changeable jaws and I was always having issues with it.

I don't recall who the vendor was but he's at every show I've been to.

pin vice

That's the one on my bench that I go to 1st; have another with a fixed head that I use for larger drills.  I keep another 4-6 simple ones about when I need to have several drills available for a single project - 1 pin vice simply is not adequate!  Changing drills and collets gets old rather fast.  If there are a lot of the same size to drill, I have a small rechargeable Dremel-like tool that I'll use or I'll just use my small variable speed drill press.
