I just received a really nice #6-38081 bought from a member here on the forum. It has seen some run time for sure, but overall a nice piece and the price was fair.
I notice that the manual and info on the box make reference to mid-2005; yet the Lionel site shows it was last cataloged in 2nd edition 2007. I always thought this engine was delivered in late 2007 or early 2008. Can anyone shed light on why the date inconsistency?

I have a 2006 vol II catalog with the JLC Allegheny in it so a print/package date of 2005 makes perfect sense.
This 2006 catalog also has the first Legacy offering, i.e. the JLC Bigboy. Had the Allegheny been offered in 07 or 08 it most likely would have been legacy equipped.
Lastly, locomotives that don't "sell out" in the first catalog are often listed in following catalogs again.
The date on the manual is Allegheny - 7/05, which seems to suggest it was indeed produced in 2005.
