I am finishing the trolley to give to my grandson next Christmas (along with a power pack).  2 Extra LED lights + passengers + destination signs.

Does your motor make a whining noise when it runs?  This one does.  If not, anything that can be done short of replacement (I know, I should have found this out before spending all that time enhancing it).

I can post a sound clip if necessary.  It's not super loud, but it is noticeable.

Thanks,

John

Does access to the "gear train" involve complete disassembly or are there access points from underneath?

Thanks,

John

Yes, there is a small opening under each axle that exposes a gear, some LaBelle gear lube applied there carefully when it is running at very slow speed should work. Note that the truck sideframes may succumb to "zinc pest" but that will not affect the operation of the car as the sideframes are just there for looks.

I found out that lubrication requires disassembly.

To disassemble, remove four screws marked B.  Wiggle off shell.  Remove eleven nuts holding on the top circuit board.  (You might be able to leave the circuit board on if you rest it upside down on foam).  Remove eight screws I labeled C from the bottom.  Disconnect two electrical connectors.  Everything is easy to lubricate from there or service.

I want to both "like" and "dislike" this post.

Thanks for the info, but could they have made it any more difficult to perform what should be a routine procedure?
