I was looking at the products offered at The Electric RR Co. and want to know if the Railsounds Commander is different than the Railsounds units installed in the non TMCC engines? I'm thinking that they are but want to be sure.

If you're talking conventional RailSounds, yes it's different. It's the same board I believe, but the software is different. The new RailSounds Commander looks just like a RTR RailSounds board. Here's the two:
Looks like basically the same layout, but they have left out a couple of connectors.

Thank you for the pictures and confirming what I thought.
I Believe the difference in the two boards is the RTR RailSounds has no battery provision, that's the missing connector on the one corner.
There is more to this, unless you are just talking about recent releases. There are modular RS board in conventional and TMCC and there are generic RS TMCC used in Non Lionel product. G
