I always liked the look of this engine and recently have become more desirous of owning one.  Since it came out in the 2006 catalog, I was wondering if it has four chuffs per revolution or only two?

Does anyone have a video of the engine running that they could share.

Thanks for the help

Don

4 chuffs, and this has to be the pinnacle of Lionel as far as detail on a non articulated is concerned. I think this is one of the last "Korean made" engines from Lionel. So the build quality is excellent.

The L2a mohawk would be a close second.

I'm not sure if this is a forum member but heres a very thorough review *NOT MY VIDEO*:

Don,

Not sure what cars you might be thinking of running with it?  I have the Lionel George washington cars that Were issued with it and really like them (probably my favorite passenger train), but I needed to replace every window strip in the set, due to some splatter finish issue.   It was not a huge deal as I got the replacements from Lionel.  I think this is common to every one of the George Washington sets.  If you are looking for a set of these, you might ask about it.

This is a very nicely detailed engine. For all the detail though, Lionel managed to leave off the number plate in the center of the smokebox. Many years ago there was a company called C&O Plates that made etched brass number plates for the C&O, N&W, and others. I got the correct number plate and a George Washington cameo to mount on the feedwater heater. Unfortunately the owner retired long ago and though I understand he sold his inventory, no one is making these now.

The George Washington started in 1932 and these engines received larger, rectangular tenders in 1938, so the model represents just a six year period.

For those of you that have this engine, how does it run at startup and slow speed? Mine had a bad case of Odyssey lurch. I just finished installing an ERR Cruise M and it runs sweet at low speeds now.

PH1975,

I have 4 car and 2 car add on pack and opted out of the sound car.

I bought the 490 eagle instead of the George.  I like the heritage of it being modified into the Yellowbelly Hudson in its later years, with the same number as the Lionel one.

I really like the  brass number plate on the front of the boiler,  very cool.

Took a quick phone video of mine. I had not run this in while.   Looks like the folks towards the end of the train may need to call maintenance for some lights..   I think the H7 has the same kind of appearance of an older brother with its water heater, flying pumps and I believe the same tender.

I bought my f19 off eBay a while back.  When I received it, the packaging allowed the engine to shift while shipping and the cow catcher was bent down very close to the middle rail.  I think the bent cow catcher was part of the reason for the great deal on the bay  It bent back easily and never had an issue since.  I did notice the oddessy jerk tonight, but that doesn’t really bother me, once it’s moving I just enjoy watching it.

If there's any engine that currently deserves the Legacy rerun treatment, it's arguably this one. Superbly detailed and pretty much bulletproof.

I guess I do not see Lionel reissuing this engine because it was only used on one railroad.  For the past couple of years, Lionel seems to offer engines with many different road names.  This allows a decent size run of engines due to the combined total of all road name offered.  Even with the Southern Pacific GS series, there are many different offerings of basically the same engine - just different detailing or paint.  Same with the N&W J.  I cannot imagine them offering this engine in any different road names.

I figure that is why we have not seen a reissue of the Dreyfus Hudson.

Guess we can always hope.

Happy railroading,

All good points about the C&O locomotive. However, how does that logic account for all the UP "Big Boy" models, when there were only 25 ever built for only one railroad? Then there all all those NYC Hudson models and PRR K4s models.

Or you can send me your TMCC Dreyfus and F19 and ill slap a LEGACY package in it, it would look exactly as if Lionel did it on the inside. Operate the same as any other LEGACY steamer on the outside
