I'm considering ordering one of these sets (Santa Fe) with the two powered A units and have some questions. Hopefully, someone from Lionel will chime in.

I'm looking for confirmation that:

  • each unit has 2 motors so a total of 4 motors and
  • each unit is a fully functional legacy diesel and could be operated separately from the other. No "tethers", either physical or electronic.

Thanks

John

Yes and yes. Both are separate powered Legacy engines.

They will share a similar Bluetooth ID so that they work as a AA pair when run through the Universal Remote or LionChief APP together. They'll also be able to run as independent engines on Bluetooth as well, just not at the same time.

Thanks

@Dave Olson has stated both units have 2 motors in an earlier post.

All legacy engines get their own ID.  There is no need for tethers.  The only thing I can think of is the B unit may start out in reverse to make it easier to be put in a MU with the powered A without programming it as a train.  Dave can confirm or correct this.

And he already beat me to it!  LOL!

So running in Legacy they would have different id's allowing them to run separately but could also be put into a lashup?

Correct.

You can also give them the same ID in Legacy and run them that way as an AA pair as well without having to build a lash-up. The code in the RCMC knows when to reverse the power to the motors in the trailing unit.

Marty - no E6 B-units. But with powered B-units, they are directional when using the same ID and not building a train. When you build a train w/ a B-unit, you can select the direction you desire.

May sound complicated, but it's actually very smart and easy to set up.
