These questions surfaced in my last thread....I am now looking for anyone/someone who has definitive answers.

Did they upgrade the fuel tanks on these diesel to the scale variety?

Where is the blind center axle located on those SD trucks...in the center or near the fuel tanks as in olden days??

Thanks for any kind response.

Based on the RK Scale diesels I have, which make up a majority of my diesel fleet, I would say the fuel tanks have not been upgraded but some may have been. I've compared my engines with others and some have no changes, others very little, others significant.

On the six wheel trucks, the blind/dummy axle is closest to the fuel tank. Despite the 6 axle truck, they are actually 4-axle drive. The other two axles are plastic and just "floater" axles.

The SD9 and FP45 have undersized sized fuel tanks to clear 0-36 switches. The SD45's are former Premier engines and have close to scale fuel tanks, they just lack the truck details. A very effective solution is to use tap plastics and lower the fuel tanks to give them a better appearance. They are long enough just not deep enough to look scale. Of course on the Rail king scale locos the window frames on the cabs are not blackend like the premier line. A little paint and minor detailing can really improve the looks of railking scale engines.
