Hi, I just bought a Railking challenger from 1996 and it’s running well but I have a question about the smoke unit. It has a double smokestack and seems have gotten a bit saturated the first time I used it. Also is one of the stacks, the front or rear or both where I add the smoke fluid? I added it to both and it didn’t perform well. The instructions didn’t say. This is the first articulated engine I’ve been able to acquire so any help is greatly appreciated!

There’s only one smoke unit even though it has two stacks. There’s a shared funnel between the two stacks that leads to a single smoke unit. So more than likely you’ve flooded it. Also, did you try blowing down the stacks with your mouth to remove any fluid bubbles? …if you feel like you’ve possibly flooded it, you can turn the engine upside down and place some paper towels under the stacks, and leave it sit that way for a while.

I did indeed flood it, but I had to take it apart as well. The smoke unit was jostled out of alignment of the smokestack from what I could tell. Wiring was good, no sign of it being burnt out. I’ll have to get pictures when I’m able to properly run this beauty on Christmas Day. It’s a Christmas gift for myself, but since I bought it online I was testing it out. It’s a gorgeous engine too, managed to luck out on Trainz.com and find this Railking Challenger in two tone grey with yellow striping, for a bargain! Thanks for the help as well, I greatly appreciate the replies!
