33-2004-1. Mth number. I just bought it and its coming saturday. I see no smoke listed. Can I add easily? Plug a unit into the board? Just wondering if you can do it to these f3 units.n thanks

Your number shows an old Jersey Central locomotive. If you are talking about 30-20034-1 a CSX ABA, yes it has smoke in the powered A unit.
Nope its that jersey one
Chris,
Nope its that jersey one
That's a Rugged Rails engine, like the ones that come in the starter sets. It does not have smoke.
You'd have to add a smoke unit ($50 MSRP or so, I believe) and wire it to the PS2 board. If you don't run under DCS and want to control the smoke volume, or shut off the smoke altogether, you'd have to add a pot or at least a switch.
That's a lot of money and effort for a low-end engine.
Are you sure you are getting an ABA?
I doubt there is even room for the smoke unit in such a small engine.
Before you even think about putting it on the track, open it up and if you see a white battery, throw it away and replace.
Chris, I could not respond to your wall question. As Joe stated, I don't think you will have room for smoke in a smaller RK engine like that. But yes, the PS-2 board could support the Smoke unit with the 4 pin connector. Additionally you could run a 4 wire tether to the dummy and install a smoke unit there with the Lead unit controlling it.
Most RK AB had a 4 pin tether for the dummy light and coupler. You could either use it to power smoke instead, or go to a 10pin harness so you still have directional lights, rear coupler and add smoke. Need 6 wires for all that. The connector under the lead A needs to change or go with an external one. E-mail me via profile and I can elaborate. G
Chris, You are on a 5V board, so the Smoke FET has to be evaluated to see if it is the higher rated one that supports 2 smoke units. If not the FET would need to be upgraded. You need to look at the shell to see how you want to handle the stack exit out the shell, that drives location of the smoke. I am not sure how the second smoke unit would perform at the trail A. That is a significant length of wire from the PS-2 board. So you might have some issues. MTH uses a slave unit for that. May work, may not. One in dummy should be fine.
I assume you also have a remote coupler on the Trail A? I think the 4 wire harness is for lights and coupler.

I was going to mention a PS-1 unit, but than you need pickups added to you dummy unit to bring AC Center rail power in. Not sure of the configuration on the dummy trucks of a RR set.
Slave is fed off of PS-2 board, than drives function in trail from that input. Expensive conversion for a RR or RK model. G
