He posted a link but didn't embed it so it was removed as well.

But back to the original question, unfortunately I can't do this yet as I live in a home with others.  Hopefully this summer I'll be in my own place and will run them whenever the mood strikes me.

Nearly spit my gulp of coffee all over the monitor. Thanks for the laugh Marty!

Our layout is in the basement and thus, I see it on the way in and out every day. Coincidentally, I did spend some time today just looking it over and yes, it is a great way to start the day.

Great post Craig!

Mine is in the basement too.  When I let the dogs out at 5:15AM I usually fiddle with the stuff while waiting for the scratch at the door but it has to be things I can do with no power to the layout.  Typically cleaning up and maybe filling smoke units.  Still a good way to start the day.

When I was younger, I recall reading in many of the OGR layout stories  - "I enjoy trains because they are relaxing" or "they allow me to escape the day-to-day problems for a few minutes."

I never really related this when I was young. I just happened to like trains.

Years later however, it's very easy to understand.

Personal satisfaction can never be surpassed.  Atta-boys are good too.

I leave for work at 5am, If I started the trains at that hour both me and the trains would be asked to leave. After work suits me fine and helps me de-tox from a hard day and daily commute.

HOWEVER when I work from home I will fire up a few engines during lunch, OH look at the hour, time for a quick run session!!!

Although "I" should do a few more laps around the neighborhood, I find it more enjoyable to have an engine or two run a couple laps around the layout in the early morning.

Sometimes it does... some of my older (2+ yrs) Mega Steam is slowly evaporating in their closed bottles.  Also some scents have lost some of their potency - which I understand after some time elapses - and some scents separate and need to be shaken to redissolve the matter at the bottom.  There are also some older scents that seem to not have aged a day or deteriorated from the time of purchase.

That sounds just like me!  In fact, my wife has asked, "What do you do in there?"

Live from Maryland!

Lots of time to run trains before work today!

I don't run in the moring although i often go up to the workshop and work on a project for a few minutes to half a hour before heading to work.

My layout is on the third floor and my two mainline loops pass right over our bedroom, where my wife is usually sleeping when I head off the work, so I generally do not run them.  You can barely hear them downstairs if I keep all the doors shut, but you can hear just a bit, so I usually let her sleep.

Bingo!  I'm retired now, and have a layout in the basement.  But when I was working, if I had time, I'd simply fire up the trains and watch them for 5-10 minutes.  Sort of a Zen thing, but it both calmed me down and prepared me for the day.  Of course, I'd have to watch the clock so I didn't get too involved.  My layout isn't done, and I'd sometimes get involved with a project.  Now that I'm retired, I spend a LOT more time in my "cave".  I can run the trains any time of the day (or night) and not disturb anybody.  My wife doesn't complain too much since she always knows where I am.  In the nice weather, I'm in the garage working on my hot rod.
