What a shame, I was hoping to view it on youtube.
With a basement layout....I have, too.

Done that lots of times.
How about 1 AM in the morning?

LOL! Early morning sarcasm. Love it!

Nearly spit my gulp of coffee all over the monitor. Thanks for the laugh Marty!
Our layout is in the basement and thus, I see it on the way in and out every day. Coincidentally, I did spend some time today just looking it over and yes, it is a great way to start the day.
Great post Craig!
Great post Craig!
When I was younger, I recall reading in many of the OGR layout stories - "I enjoy trains because they are relaxing" or "they allow me to escape the day-to-day problems for a few minutes."
I never really related this when I was young. I just happened to like trains.
Years later however, it's very easy to understand.
Bingo. I do this some mornings. As I suspect is the case with many, I don't allow a lot of extra time in the morning before I head out. But some days if I have a few extra minutes I'll go down to the basement for a quick train session.
As Craig said, great way to start the day.
Since I have retired, I find myself on occasion, early in the morning, and very late at night gravitating towards the train room and sometimes I run, sometimes just look things over! It gives me some piece of mind, and allows me personal satisfaction at what I have created....

Personal satisfaction can never be surpassed. Atta-boys are good too.
Since most of my work clothes are in the basement train room or in the next room, I run a few every day before heading off to work. Lucky,
I work 10 minutes from home. Sometimes i run a little during lunch.
Great how 10 minutes of running trains can put you in a good mood.........unless it derails going through a switch you have fiddled with a 100 times before!
Great way to start your day.
Glad to see I am not alone.
1 in the morning? For sure.
Another good time for train running is when you are home sick, bathrobe, slippers, cup of coffee...cheer you right up.
Woke up and let the pups out. Looked at the open bottle of Mega Steam that still has yet to show any signs of evaporation. There were a few comments about smoke fluid evaporating over night in smoke units. It doesn't work that way. LOL!
Put some tools away and admired the Sharks that were parked nearby.
If I went down to my trains to run them in the morning, I would never make it to work!
Ask me how I know!
...keep the rails polished...
You are a strong man. Most people would say S---- work and stay home and enjoy.
I leave for work at 5am, If I started the trains at that hour both me and the trains would be asked to leave. After work suits me fine and helps me de-tox from a hard day and daily commute.
HOWEVER when I work from home I will fire up a few engines during lunch, OH look at the hour, time for a quick run session!!!
Every morning if I'm home no matter what I dedicate 20 minutes before work to trains and a cup of coffee. I call it the Morning Coffee Run.
yep

Sometimes it does... some of my older (2+ yrs) Mega Steam is slowly evaporating in their closed bottles. Also some scents have lost some of their potency - which I understand after some time elapses - and some scents separate and need to be shaken to redissolve the matter at the bottom. There are also some older scents that seem to not have aged a day or deteriorated from the time of purchase.
Yep, whenever we can, even at 2AM. NO infomercial viewing here!
Sound off, smoke on, trains slowly running thru scenery with layout lights on...
Can't help but be relaxed and feel fortunate doing so.
I have made morning runs a habit of mine. The wife leaves before I do, so I get an hour or so all to myself to relax, run trains, check email and get ready for the day.

That sounds just like me! In fact, my wife has asked, "What do you do in there?"

Lots of time to run trains before work today!
I don't run in the moring although i often go up to the workshop and work on a project for a few minutes to half a hour before heading to work.
My layout is on the third floor and my two mainline loops pass right over our bedroom, where my wife is usually sleeping when I head off the work, so I generally do not run them. You can barely hear them downstairs if I keep all the doors shut, but you can hear just a bit, so I usually let her sleep.
Bingo! I'm retired now, and have a layout in the basement. But when I was working, if I had time, I'd simply fire up the trains and watch them for 5-10 minutes. Sort of a Zen thing, but it both calmed me down and prepared me for the day. Of course, I'd have to watch the clock so I didn't get too involved. My layout isn't done, and I'd sometimes get involved with a project. Now that I'm retired, I spend a LOT more time in my "cave". I can run the trains any time of the day (or night) and not disturb anybody. My wife doesn't complain too much since she always knows where I am. In the nice weather, I'm in the garage working on my hot rod.
Since I am retired I will usually take a cup of Joe to the basement and run the trains for 30 minutes or so everyday. I try to run a different loco each day to keep em limbered up. Once in a while I will slip a little Jack Daniels in the coffee to give it a little spike.
