By renumbering. I’m guessing you have duplicate shells and want to change the numbers out or just one number. First you need to find appropriate decals. Pretty much exact if your just removing one or two numbers.

Removing the numbers without damaging the paint is the hard part. Wet sanding with very fine paper will work. My go to method for hoppers or freight cars. Is a Paasche air eraser. Just mask off exactly what you want to remove. Work slowly and it basically erases the number or numbers. Best to practice on a scrap car first. Hit the area with some clear gloss as the erasing will take the shine off the paint and place your decal. Then clear again

You may may need numberboards also.  There’s a few methods for doing these.

If you can describe your project as to what you want to change up and what color or road name your working with. It will be easier to help you it.

Jeff Sohn gave me this tip, so he gets the credit. Use 1200-1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper (wet) and gently sand off the cab numbers. Then replace the numbers with the appropriate Microscale or Champ O scale decals. The number boards can be removed from the shell and sanded, replacing the numbers with the appropriate decals as well. I'd strongly advise doing a roster check before changing the numbers. #1315 and #1318 are going to be changed to #3313 and #3318 when I change them from Phase I to Phase II (silver trucks/beacons).

This one started out as Cab #6008

These two started out as Cab #1313  (there was a mix-up at MTH and three of the same cab numbers were shipped out. I ended up with four GP35's when I found one of the other road numbers.
