After a lifetime career on actual railroads (Jersey Central, Rahway Valley, Erie-Lackawanna, Conrail,
US Navy) and in model railroading that spanned almost 50 years, I’m coming to the ‘end of the line’ says Walter M. Matuch, president of Ready Made Trains LLC. On February 24th, I will be 67 years young and will retire.
RMT, the company, will remain online, perhaps until the end of April 2016, as the remaining in-stock RMT inventory is sold on the RMT website. All existing current orders and those new orders placed online will be processed and shipped by warehouse operating staff during that time, then RMT will be done and the doors closed.
Now is the best time to complete your RMT collection says Matuch as there still some GG1s, BEEP Diesels, BEEF A-A + B unit diesels, BUDDY/RDCs, various freight/passenger cars, BEEPeople figure sets, Lighted Towers and 3-rail track/switches.
However, added online at RMT website… www.readymadetoys.com …starting about February 1st, will be a special ‘for sale’ listing with over 10+ years of RMT pre-production samples, product test shots, samples from other toy train manufacturers and more from the RMT archives…many are 1-of-a-kind-items. All RMT molds and toolings in the USA and China have either been repositioned or are not available for sale.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all in the hobby business who helped me over the years along with the many, many toy train enthusiasts that purchased model railroad products that I consulted on, designed or manufactured for: Hudson River Car Shops, Rail Scene, Aristo-Craft, USA Trains, K-line, Lionel, Weaver, MTH, Toy Truck Collector, Taylor Made trucks and RMT-Ready Made Trains.
And a very special thank you to my wife Susie and my wonderful family. Their encouragement and support over the years made it all much easier and fun.
All aboard!!!
Walter M. Matuch

This explains the big blowout sale under the OLR brand that occurred recently.
Been expecting this for some time, sorry to see another one go.
Just received Walter's email.... and wishing Walter many happy years in retirement! I will never forget the big New Year's sale a few years ago, when those great RMT ore cars could be had for about $10/car!!! Admittedly the nicest ore cars in the market... and at unheard of pricing in this day and age was a terrific bonus.
Stay healthy, Walter!
David
Congrats on retiring. Thanks for all the great merchandise and conversation.
Congrats on your retirement. I wish you nothing but the best in this new chapter of your life.

Tonight, I think that we can all tip our engineers caps in the direction of Northern NJ and drink a toast in honor of Walter.
He brought lots of joy to many (if not most) of us on the Forum. We cherish the products that we bought from him and the stories that he told. Before internet ordering, I always looked forward to speaking to him on the phone when I ordered a product. He was as good as Jim Sutter suggesting an additional item
Many of us will be looking forward to buying a few pieces of RMT history.
All the best, Walter and wishing you and your lovely bride "Many Happy Years!"
Lad Nagurney
Best of luck and much happiness in retirement, Walter. I have purchased and will continue to enjoy your RMT products. In fact, I just placed an online order with you yesterday! Have fun wherever life takes you.
Gentlemen,
Another great part of our Hobby retires! I wish him all the best in his retirement.

Where will the K-Line tooling end up now?
Walter. Congratulations for your many years in the hobby and for bringing back the great K-Line Shadow Rail and Snap Track Switches and Track. You were always a nice person to deal with and I wish you many happy years of retirement.
From your friend in Calgary, Larry Wener
I wonder who has the tooling for the old K-Line Snap Track and those great switches?
sure going to miss those little bang engines!!
Congratulations Walter! May you long enjoy your retirement!
Walter, congratulations on your retirement. Take it from me, it's great.
Just had a wonderful conversation with Walter. He's as nice as a guy can be, and he really loves the hobby. He's probably got a million stories.
Hey Walter, write a book.
Happy retirement,
Alan
Congrats Walter, and thanks for the trains!
great time for menards to get some nice tooling for new to them products.........
Thanks for the many train products I was able to get from you. Enjoy your retirement Walter. Also, thanks for always remembering our armed forces veterans on your web site. Always appreciated.
Dennis
Walter, best wishes for you to enjoy your retirement years.
Walter sure gets credit for trying to expand the offering available to we O gauge fans, whether it be his resurrection of the BEEP, the Marx RDC cars or the many items from the K-Line portfolio. Salute!
Dang! Williams, K-Line, Weaver, and now RMT. No wonder people think the hobby is shrinking.
I enjoy my ATSF BEEF ABA set.
I take it the box cab will not happen then.
Good luck Sir
Walter,
I wish the very best. I hope that this road to your retirement has less bumps than this past few years. You deserve all the best wishes that are coming your way, my friend. May our Lord bless you and yours with the happiness you have sought after all these years. God Bless
Congratulations, Walter. Thank you for being a part of this hobby. I enjoy the RMT products I own. Have a long and happy retirement.
Another one has puled into the station and won't be leaving, such is life. Thank you sir, take care and I hope you enjoy your retirement you have earned it. Now I have to get some money put together to buy some of those Beef's before all of them are gone. Choo Choo Kenny
Oh great, now where do we buy shadow rail and those shadow rail switches????
Glad that hes retiring, but too bad there wasn't someone to pick up the track part of the business.
Wishing you all the best and hoping some one rises up to keep the many items you recovered and or designed in production. I am curious who will wind up with the tooling. Obviously Lionel did not want it. I can't see MTH going for it. Who does that leave, Menards?
Walter don't forget we all want to see pics of your layout now that you will have time to work on it.
Larry3RT,
I ask the same question about the K-Line (RMT) Track & Switches in another thread, we definitely do not want them to fade out of production.
Dennis,
I agree Walter always made us Veterans part of his business, I will miss this part of RMT, very very much, Walter always recognized our military big time.
PCRR/Dave
Dang! Williams, K-Line, Weaver, and now RMT.
Fortunately for all of us, other companies stepped up to acquire the tooling, licensing etc to keep some very good products in the hobby. Of note to me is the incredible K Line track and Weaver rolling stock. Companies come and go (cept for LIONEL) but tooling is forever. I have track clips stamped 'IVES'.
Enjoy retirement, Walter!
Walter,
I wish you a great retirement, and thank you for bringing RMT Trains to our hobby.
Was hoping for the boxcab this year also.
Congratulations on your retirement Walter, you deserve it.
Walter, good luck in retirement. I wish you and your wife many happy years.
Thanks for the heads up on that Raritan River Beep. I'm glad I bought that. I got the RMT Raritan River ore cars from Ben F.
I hope I get to see your layout someday.
Have a great retirement, Walter!
All the best!
Peter
Walter,
Thanks for your many contributions to the hobby!
Fred
Just a guess, but Kader may own the tooling. Since they own Bachmann/Williams, might they bring back some of the stuff? I was told that On Line Reproductions was really Kader getting cashing out the excess RMT product.
Walter,
All the best in your retirement.
George
Thank you for all of your wonderful work Walter. I am sixty- seven my self so I know how you must feel. I wish you all of the best of luck in your retirement and hope to see you around the hobby for many years to come.
Good luck and God Bless.
Walter, thanks for all your contributions to the train world. Enjoy your retirement!
We wish Walter the best in his future endeavors. RMT is now gone but O-Line carries on with many of the same products.
