Hey Bob, that's an exciting step completing your benchwork. Do you have a track plan you are working on to share? Just wondering what your future empire will look like...

all the best,

This guy sells them on eBay. The price isn't too bad and it looks decent enough. The auction is scheduled to end tomorrow, but since he has quite a few left it's a safe bet this will be re-listed.

Hope this helps.

Hey Paul, good to hear from you! Will you be attending METCA's Banquet on Jan 5th?

All TCA members are welcome, though reservations are required.

I'll post the RR Track© drawings over on the layout forum.

Hi Bob

Always good to hear from you.

I am going to be in the NYC area that weekend BUT I am tied up with family celebrations for my parents ......wait for it......70th Wedding Anniversary!!! How cool is that?

I am sorry to be missing the METCA gathering, it sure sounds like a good time and I would enjoy catching up with you and the other "usual suspects". My goal is to be able to zoom back down two weeks later for Trainstock.

Looking forward to you updating us on your layout progress with pictures. Take care Bob.

Nicko - are you a fan or another rocker who's into model railroading?

Larry,

Thanks, I'd be glad to. First I laid out the trestle size, then I precut all the horizontal lengths. The verticals aren't as critical on length because you can let them run wild and cut them off after assembly.

I establish a stop at the top of the jig and then use nails with X's marked on the side in which the members will be placed. This is more important for the outer members and the horizontals, the two middle verticals can be eyeballed if you wish. This wasn't critical to me because the beauty of the bents is a little inconsistency-opinion.

I push the two outer sides up to the stop and out to the nails pin the top horizontal, then the bottom, then fill in the centers. Be sure the pieces are on the correct side of the nails as you go. I then remove the bent from the jig, turn over and pin horizontals on the opposite sides again lining them up close to the previous sides. The angled bracing is all applied out of the jig by eye, they also can be precut for saving time.

I used a headless pinner with 3/8" pins, if you don't have access to one hot melt will work but slow the process. I also used a finger dab of wood glue at each connection but keep in mind that it won't take stain so use it sparingly.
Hopefully some of the pics will clarify the process, I used scraps as I don't have my original jig.
