Recommended smoke unit fan motor replacement for Lionel Legacy Santa Fe F3 A-B-B-A?

Hello,

I am starting to get back into the hobby after 7ish years away. I had ordered the Lionel F3 A-A and matching B units from the 2017 catalog. I had opened the A-A (6-85186) units when they arrived many years ago. Not sure why, but I never opened the B units. I recently opened the B units and programmed them. My issue is that the fan units for the smoke units seem to be very loud. I opened them up and oiled them folllowing the steps from Eric’s trains video. Unfortunately, that only improved the sound in one smoke unit.

I was able to find the fan motor part number from lionel here. I wanted to see if people may have suggestions for a better, alternative to this fan motor or if people would recommend ordering the same fan motor. I am okay using any compatible manufacturer. I am just looking for quieter operation. I have two of the NS heritage SD70ACE units. The fan units in those are much quieter.

Thanks for the response. Is the best place to purchase these fan motors from the manufacturers themselves or are there forum sponsors that would sell the fan motors? I would probably be buying a multiples of both the Lionel and MTH motors just in case I find fit is an issue. I would also be buying more than I need in order to have spares going forward.

I wanted to say that I have been able to find the fan motors on Lionel’s site for purchase. I am not sure how to go about purchasing the MTH fan motors. I found this link that you had posted in another thread. Unfortunately, I am unable to figure out how to purchase the item.
