Recommended Sound Deadening Carpet for Temporary Layouts

Although I graduated from carpet centrals some time ago, from experience, I would suggest something with a short pile, such as a Berber. If you have a carpet store or big box store (Home Depot, Lowe’s) near you, check to see if they have any remnants for sale - they tend to be cheaper.

Since you don’t want to spend a lot of money, you might also want to consider carpet tiles.

You could also look at so-called "indoor/outdoor" carpet at the big box stores. It probably won't have as good sound deadening as a remnant, but might be a cheaper alternative.

I used cheap carpeting off the roll at HD that had a built-in pad.  Does a good job of keeping the sound down.  Not that easy to get a good seam but gets the job done.  It's been several years so not sure if they still stock it or if it comes in green.  Mine is grey-brown.  Here's a picture of the edge where you can see the white pad.

Richie has a good point... but if you do use “indoor/outdoor” carpet, you might consider adding 1” of pink or blue foam underneath for sound deadening.

I am in a club that does temporary Fastrack layouts in many locations on folding tables.  We have covers of 1/8" felt(?) with cloth curtains down to the floor fitted on each table. The sound is reasonable with these covers.
