red marker lights won't turn on on my MTH 20-2746-1 Milwaukee Road FT ABA

Purchased a new MTH 20-2746-1 Milwaukee Road FT ABA today. This set was originally made in 2007. It runs and sounds fine and the green marker lights on the lead A unit work fine. However, the red marker lights on the trailing A unit do not turn on. I see them occasionally blink when I change direction but they then go off immediately. I reset the engine and this did nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
