I was going through my photos this week-end and it seemed like yesterday when it was nice and warm out... you could run trains outdoors!
We only had one "rain" delay.

Have you ever had to keep an eye on weather radar during such operating sessions?
I know on occasion I've used it to see if I had time to run an errand in advance of an approaching thunderstorm. Other times I've left the house without an umbrella while storms were dumping buckets of rain nearby--because they were moving parallel to the state line and weren't getting any closer to the city before the tail end passed.

We did for this one. but it was a light rain and Victor had the mylar sheets ready to go.
We enjoyed nice, warm days when R&N 425 visited the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway at Jim Thorpe. Her Reading passenger whistle sounded so good echoing through the mountains!
J Daddy you just had to remind me how nice the summer/fall was with it only being 19 outside right now. Atleast it is dry and the ground is CLEAR.

we're having winter in SoCal, too.
hardly got into the 60's for much of today.
brrrrrrrrrrrr.
It hit 75* here today. Its supposed to drop to a high of 45* tomorrow and 35* Sunday. I love NC weather!
Give me the cold of a Michigan winter any day over a 90+ degree summer day!
Nice shots and details, Mark. I like the thieving dog!
J Daddy;
Now that's a layout!
You could lose sight of your train at the far end of that baby!
Hey its still nice in the mid-80's here in SW Florida. Load up the layout and bring it on down!

Are you kidding me, you like 80s and 90's . Give me 50 and below and i am very happy. No bbq's for me if it is above 75 degrees. In December and January I Want snow.
if there was no summer then life would be perfect.
I spent most of the warmer months this year working on 1:1 scale trains as a volunteer at Greenfield Village. With three operating steam locomotives, an 1897 Baldwin 4-4-0, an 1873 Mason 0-6-4T and a rebuilt (from an 1860's Manchester 0-4-0 tender locomotive) 4-4-0 from 1932, there was no shortage of tasks to take on all summer. The Baldwin operated for the first time since the late 1920's this past July and was placed into regular service pulling passengers on the railroad.
Me in the fireman's seat on one of the several day I spent with the locomotive crew on weekends learning how to fire.
My first several weekends working on operating days were spent with our small 4-4-0 "Edison". While Thomas the Tank engine, from Strasburg, pulled our weekend trains at the Day out with Thomas events, I spent the weekends preparing "Edison" for her week days of operations by doing any necessary clean up tasks on Saturday, and spending Sunday's lighting a fire and bringing her up to pressure.
This winter I believe there are several projects going on such as a new coaling tower which (last I heard) was scheduled to be assembled in January and put into service next summer, a new tender tank for our Mason, the usual maintenance lists all three locomotives have, and I've been assigned the task of doing some paint work on our Mason and the small 1932 4-4-0 so they look presentable next year next to their beauty queen sister, D&LN 4-4-0 #7.

I'm with ya' on that! Heck I run my trains year round outdoors and bbq when it's sub-zero. Wintertime is best with snowmobiling, ice fishing & swimming
You guys are making me feel cold. Really the only negative thing for me is the weather is mostly so nice I have to force myself to go down to the train room and work on the layout. There's just so much to do here. I've only watched one football game this year and I don't think I watched any last year. Before I watched every 49er game on TV. Don

John I remember that day well. Very carefully watching the radar app on my phone and pulling out the plastic sheeting just before the sprinkles arrived.
