Remote problems

Hi everyone I'm a newbie here and could sure use some help. I pulled out the train set to give to my grandson. It was given to me some years ago so i never had it set up before. Anyway following all the directions we can get power to the track. We have power coming from the transformer. We tried pushing the long gray remote button but the green light doesn't light up.

Can we hook up a regular transformer with an on board speed controller and run the train that way. Not too interested in all the extra stuff at this point. I attached a picture of the lock on and remote.

Also is there a schematics printout available so I could test it.

Are you aware that this gadget works on IR and like a TV remote must be aimed at the lock-on when changing speed or direction?

Yes, you can run the train with any conventional AC train-transformer such as an MTH Z-500, Z-750 or any Post War Lionel transformer.

Does the remote have fresh batteries in it ?

Try inserting the lock-on into a different section of track.

The triacs that control the track voltage on those are a frequent failure item. My inclination is to replace those if I can't get any power out of the unit.

geysergazer is correct.

You have to have a direct and clear line from remote to receiver. common problem with this setup. I found out the hard way like you are experiencing.

Amazon has the IRFZ34N parts.

Question: Do both of those parts have the same numbers? That's not always the case, so we need to know what's on the back one. From what I see through the hole it appears they are the same, but it would be nice to be sure.
