I learned the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser trick here on the Forum from our very own "SIRT" (Steve).  This method works really well, but can sometimes take a little while...and I sometimes lack patience.

I found that adding a few drops of 90% isopropyl alcohol to slightly moisten the Magic Eraser can really speed things up.  Just don't rub too hard or too long as the alcohol can also remove the underlying body paint.

Warning! MTH cars have multiple layers of clearcoat- esp locos ! For quick and fast results use a micro brush with Bob Smith Industries

Cyanocrite glue remover. This stuff is NOT friendly to plastic so you use a VERY SMALL amount and apply with the microbrush on the pad print you want removed. Have a rag handy to wipe off any excess or spillage and wipe IMMEDIATELY when the pad printing is gone.

I have tried the Testor's ELO (Easy Lift Off) and found that it only worked when I scratched or very lightly sanded the surface of the lettering, allowing the liquid to penetrate. I wasn't pleased with the results.

Has anyone tried the ELO with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?

Yes, and it worked great on a 3-pack of Lionel scale PS-2 covered hoppers I recently "stripped" of all lettering.  I haven't tried this method on a MTH car yet.

I laid the cars on their sides and put a few drops of the ELO on the lettering I wanted to remove. After allowing the ELO to work for a few minutes, I used the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  All lettering came right off with very little rubbing effort, and without removing any of the base car body paint...way easier than I would have ever guessed!

Here are a few pictures of the before, during and after...
