I've used the Mr. Clean magic eraser.
I learned the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser trick here on the Forum from our very own "SIRT" (Steve). This method works really well, but can sometimes take a little while...and I sometimes lack patience.
I found that adding a few drops of 90% isopropyl alcohol to slightly moisten the Magic Eraser can really speed things up. Just don't rub too hard or too long as the alcohol can also remove the underlying body paint.
Thanks for the insight!!
Make arrangements with Steve/ SIRT and send it to him. He dis a few cars for me and they came out great. s they say patience is a virtue that I, at times, don't have so I paid for it. Well worth the money at Steve turned them in a week .
Testor's makes ELO, Easy Lift Off, a slow acting paint remover. I've had success with that. Follow the directions on the can. Use a very fine brush to apply to the lettering or logo only.
I have tried the Testor's ELO (Easy Lift Off) and found that it only worked when I scratched or very lightly sanded the surface of the lettering, allowing the liquid to penetrate. I wasn't pleased with the results.
Has anyone tried the ELO with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?
Warning! MTH cars have multiple layers of clearcoat- esp locos ! For quick and fast results use a micro brush with Bob Smith Industries
Cyanocrite glue remover. This stuff is NOT friendly to plastic so you use a VERY SMALL amount and apply with the microbrush on the pad print you want removed. Have a rag handy to wipe off any excess or spillage and wipe IMMEDIATELY when the pad printing is gone.

Yes, and it worked great on a 3-pack of Lionel scale PS-2 covered hoppers I recently "stripped" of all lettering. I haven't tried this method on a MTH car yet.
I laid the cars on their sides and put a few drops of the ELO on the lettering I wanted to remove. After allowing the ELO to work for a few minutes, I used the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. All lettering came right off with very little rubbing effort, and without removing any of the base car body paint...way easier than I would have ever guessed!
Here are a few pictures of the before, during and after...

These methods just take off the lettering/logo without taking off the base paint? I'll give it a try. Thanks for all the insights on how to!

Rick, yes...lettering only! Check out the photos added to my post above.
Joe A, I never tried the Magic Eraser with ELO. Always used the q-tip like in the directions. I'll have tot ry your method. see you have the original from Polly Scale, Testor's took over Polly scale and puts it in a small can instead of a bottle.

Coach Joe, you're right, that bottle of ELO goes back a LOOOONG time!! I forgot I even had it until I stumbled upon it recently. Still worked like a charm...even after all these years!
