Removing handrails ?

Hi Everyone,
So I am painting a Berkshire jr and I am wondering how to remove handrails from the sides of the loco, and top and sides of tender? Or do I just mask them off? It is a PE Berkshire.

I don't have this particular one, but if its like most lionel steamers, you open the front boiler door and straighten out the handrails where they pass into the boiler. You do the same in the rear, then slide the rails out toward the front through all the stantions. Look inside the tender and straighten the rails out, then pull them out.
