I was wondering how I can repaint without stripping paint off a MTH GG1 loco. I use this Dollar store eraser sponge with some water and it removed the numbers very easily. The name of the sponge is OKS and I got them from a dollar store. If my pictures download this will be the results. Part of the number I didn't rub on enough. It doesn't destroy the paint on the model either.

Shurlock1,
Please remember us when you require new decals to put on your engines & rolling stock.

Sure. Wont be for a while, but I will.
What you removed were Tampo printing not decals. I have used a number of things to remove Tampo but yet to try one of those sponges. I'll have to pick one up.
I tried before using emery cloth with water and this leaves shell dull. I use sponge and it has a little shine. Yes I know its tamped on I just called it a decal, and decals come off with 90% alcohol or some vinegar and water.
Being a decal artist and manufacture I was just trying to make sure folks know the difference. As long as decals are not sealed under a clear top coat I remove them with Scotch brand clear tape. Any decal not removed can be helped by some Solvaset which is paint safe.
I'm confused about what you are trying to achieve. Seems you know how to remove decoration so what's the issue? Are you trying to remove the striping on the grill without burning through the paint?

Don't know why you are confused. Didn't think it was hard to understand.
Believe me, it is confusing. Explain whether you're repainting the whole engine or just the numbers?
Doh! it's me...it's me! i'll read the title next time
