Repair 6-12834 PRR Gantry Crane Magnet | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I purchased a NOS PRR Gantry Crane 6-12834 (circa 1993) for my son for Christmas. Well, it quit working and showed a short on the transformer.

I took it to my LHS and he diagnosed that the magnet shorted out and took the diode with it. He stated that the replacement magnet is not available from Lionel. He even looked at other magnets from similarly aged cranes, and those parts aren't available either.

Searching Ebay turned up nothing. Does anyone know where I might be able to find these parts?
