A short time back I sold this Unit (In perfect working order) to a Friend. Not long after he installed it on his Layout, the THREE TRAINS stopped working. Everything else works. I gave it to a ELECTRONIC GURU FRIEND of mine to repair.   Believe me he is Top Notch. The only problem he is having is getting at the :CIRCUIT BOARD in the back. He has removed all the screws, but it appears that something else is preventing  the opening of the Back Panel  to get to the Circuit Board. He told me it almost appears as though it is partially glued......................ANY IDEAS???

Please advise

The trains on mine stopped working  also. I took it apart and found it was the motor that turns the pulleys was not working. I talked to the dealer where I bought it and told him I needed a motor for it. He ordered the  turntable like assembly with motor pulleys gears the whole works. I put that in and problem solved. That is why I am kind of wondering why he is trying to take off the rear panel.

I sent this QUESTION to Lionel, and got an answer back the same day!! I got an answer from the "CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER" Dean Brassuer. He said take the entire TOP off, not the Back Panel. The screws to achieve this are hidden under the "Rubber Feet" on the bottom. He not only told me that, but which components to change. We did that, and now it works great. (the three Trains in the Hobby Shop are now running!!

A BIG KUDO To LIONEL TRAINS And their SERVICE DEPT !!!!

Thanks, Lionel

So what components did he tell you to change? I have the same problem!

I have had the problem of an erratically, but sometimes working (needs a nudge), center layout on the Midtown Hobby Shop variation. I presume it is a belt drive by the way it misperforms. Con some one please tell me which of the many screws in the base I must remove to access only the center layout to investigate and repair only one of the three layouts?

I called Lionel today (⅜/2019), stated my issue and my willingness to repair on my own. I was abruptly told by the rep that they no longer give repair advice to “The Unauthorized”, and that there were no diagrams available to help.  Prettty abrupt (rude?) as well. Disappointed, and I can, regardless of my childhood infatuation with Lionel, be pushed easily into the MTH/Atlas, etc., etc. camp after a very negative customer “service” experience.

Anyone’s/everyone’s help is much appreciated, as always......since I don’t appear to be alone with this wonderful but458E97EB-B7DD-489A-89F9-58990018E871 troublesome accessory.
