Hello,

My Dad got out his American Flyer stuff today, after many years in storage. He got it going, but the locomotive appears to have a short in the motor from his description. I haven't lived in Ohio for 20 years and all the shops we frequented back then (Glen's/Aaron's in Akron, Schaffner's in Canton, and Smithville Model Trains) are all gone. Would there be any shops/recommendations for him to speak with about having this looked at in the area?

Thanks in Advance

Thanks for posting. Our area lost a great resource last year with the closing of the Trading Post in Old Brooklyn. The repair tech there is a forum member, but I'm not sure if he's doing still doing repairs and don't want to "out" him for fear of driving up his email traffic.

The Stockyard Express in Oberlin does repair work, but I don't know if they tackle old pre- and post-war era gear. There's also Uncle Ray's Trains in Sheffield which has a good reputation but, again, I don't know if they do repairs.

I was researching this myself. E&S Hobbies in Akron states on their website that they're temporarily closed due to Covid. There's also a place called Depot Train and Hobby near the old Trading Post, but I think it's mainly non-train hobby items, but perhaps worth a call.

There is a new repair shop in Barberton that opened recently. He bought the parts from a shop in Cleveland that closed last year that I was the Lionel repairman at. There were Flyer parts in the inventory that he bought. Give him a call.

If you need any Lionel repairs I'm still doing repairs. I'm located 10 miles south of downtown Cleveland.

Thanks for posting Bob.  I wasn't sure if you wanted a plug/advertisement or not. I'll never forget the story about my grandfather's neighbor who was an electrician. When he retired, he told everyone he sold life insurance before retirement to avoid calls for work and favors.

For everyone else, ZW Bob has done several ERR upgrades for me and his work is outstanding!

Didn't know about Beltline hobbies. Too bad they haven't promoted themselves much that I can see. IMHO, any hobby shop today needs an up to date website for generating sales, or they will sink.  I may stop by the next chance I get, hard to say since they don't even have an in-stock list of items...
