I am ordering the parts to build the Post War Relay Replacement board, as found in the Hobby section of the ERR web site.

As it turns out, the specified relay is no longer available.  It's marked as OBSOLETE.  So, I did a bit of scouting and, before I order it, would like somebody with good eyes to make sure my replacement is good fit.

OLD PART: 425-1210-5-ND (Digi-Key part number)

NEW PART: 255-5981-ND (Digi-Key part number)

They are both 4-SIP packages, have very comparable voltage/amperage numbers.  The thing that concerns me is that the "Series" is different.  I don't know what Series means in this context.  And considering that this part is $18 each, I would like to get it right to begin with!  :-)

Thanks in Advance!

OK.  I found an older thread from 2016 that discusses this exact same issue.

Since I want to switch AC (not just DC), I purchased the AQZ202‎ relay (as opposed to the CPC1706Y model). Yes, it is pricey, but right now, I do not care.

Once it arrives, I will breadboard it out and make sure it works.  Once it does, I will put it all together.

FWIW: I downloaded an ancient (still FreeWare) version of Eagle, so that I could read that ancient .SCH and .BRD file and convert them into the newer XML version.  Did that for all of the projects they had up on the web site.  Now, I can generate Gerber files and get those boards fabricated for me.

I recommend you consider DipTrace, they have a free version that should be good for the stuff you'll be doing.  It's the easiest package I've found for PCB layout.  Direct link to download the DipTrace Freeware version.

Thank you for all your work on this. I am interested in how this works for you. Perhaps you could post a video when you are done?

I don't know how much a video is required, but I will certainly let everybody know how the process is going.  More than half of the parts arrived today, but some pieces were just ordered and may not get here until Monday.  Either way, this is meant to be a learning project for me, so I plan on getting everything out of this I can.

If I get this working, who knows...  I can't sell them - it's not my design or project.  I just want my blasted whistle to reliably whistle on command without needing that becursed solenoid.

You can do what I've done with a host of projects, including some that I could legally sell.  I just posted all the design details and Gerber files for anyone to use.
