The lionel sp ac9 has it traction tires on the front wheels instead of rear and all the front valve gear covers the front wheel making it almost impossible to change traction tire. I removed all the valve gear on that wheel and the steam chest is still in the way. any suggestions on how to change the tire. the ac9 is a sp 2-8-8-4 engine.

The 2-6-6-2 and the Y6b is no joy either. I had to take the whole front steam chest and pilot off of the locomotive.
May I suggest using a product called Bullfrog Snot. My friend who is a Lionel tech swears by it. He uses it any time he needs to change traction tires. It come as a liquid and you apply it with a small paint brush. it takes about 24hrs to dry and last much longer than traction tires.
