While I respect other's wants & priorities in their lives,to make a long story short,it sounds like that O Scale store is vanishing fast.
Norm's O Scale,Diechman's,Model train Stuff & Mr.Muffin's are the better priced shops,in my limited O scale knowledge.
My concern is with another retailer heading out,it kind of "trips me up," while headed full speed ahead in O Scale.I can't afford the higher prices of other major shops that carry O Scale,so this kind of slows me to thinking if I'm making the right forward move into O Scale? Am I just getting "over reacting" here?

I agree with Mike on Caboose Stop Hobbies. They are my first choice for 2-rail models as they have the best price & if you have a chance to visit them, you will be impressed by their “Blue Room” which is packed from floor to ceiling with Atlas-O (2-rail & 3-rail) models. They also participate in a lot of shows almost every month in the Midwest & I pick up models from them at these shows too.
I also recommend Norm’s O-Scale as another dealer who offers good discounts.
But it seems like many 2-rail hobbyists know that Caboose Stop Hobbies & Norm’s O-Scale offer the best prices & so they would be the first to run out of 2-rail models in popular road names.
If you waited too long & missed a specific model, you could contact Des Plaines Hobbies, P&D Hobby or Petersen Supply. I have got deals from them occasionally but they usually list their models around full MSRP & so expect to pay more. Sometimes I don’t realize how good some of these 2-rail models are until I see them in person or online on this forum. By that time, they seem to be sold out at dealers who offer good discounts & I am thankful that Des Plaines or P&D still have them available.
I haven’t had much success with some of the other dealers you mentioned. I have visited some on my road trips & it was opinion that they could preorder 2-rail items if you planned ahead but they didn’t usually carry much 2-rail models in stock.
These are just my opinion,
Thanks,
Naveen Rajan
I would suspect Caboose Stop has the largest selection of older Atlas 2 rail models today , PDT also carries a large inventory both 2 and 3 rail Atlas O. JMO
It doesn't look good to the rest of us - especially given his response.
Graemlins would have helped.
The Moderators can make their own decisions. I wouldn't tolerate it on my forum.
Ok Gary, running trains with JMRI and WiThrottle is a bit more complicated than you make it out to be, actually it's a lot more complicated. But it also works with thre rail TMCC locos and switches

Hi Matt / Yes, is can be complicated. This system has been out for over five years. The company has made several improvements. The paid version for MTH / DCS / App. is still not out. I use MTH / DCS at home and NCE / DCC & Apps at a train club. DMRRC, see link in my signature.
At the club layout it is all managed by several members, the top dispatcher is an engineering student at the University of Michigan, he does solve all issues that may come along.
Team work is the best part of any model train club layout and learning together. Below are some links that may help.

Yes, quite frequently but I have to suppress the voices to hear it clearly.

Close that last You tube page, likely it's just playing in the background
Allen, HO means "Half of O gauge". Yes, the numerical ratio is a bit off the US 1:48 and closer to 1:43, but close enough in a pinch you can often test some HO engines on some 3 rail tubular straight track
2rs shops for O outnumber the 3rail shops around here when you take into account no dedicated 3-rail stores exist, but three "scale only" do.
But more stores overall compete for the 3r market. Those that do, also carry at least some 2rs equipment, but are essentially "hobby shops" with varying degrees of other products/supplies. The two rail stores are specialty shops, you'll likely need supplies from the "hobby shops" too

Technology Update • Yes I can hear the forum.
Step 1 - Drag over copy. / Step 2 - Go to Start Speaking. At this point the computer reads back, "Interesting. You can hear the forum?" Click this screen shot to enlarge.
All Mac Computers have a feature call Dictation and Speech. This feature is over twenty years old. Just drag over the OGR Forum Copy and Mac Speech, will read it back.
I can talk to the computer and it will type what I speak into the OGR Forum post. Just as good as all the technology that we use in model railroading.

In your plans for this 2 Rail Scale Layout, do you have objectives for managing your train layout. Most Train Shops will sell a DCC System but you would be cool to find a local dealer that knows DCC and can give you advise. Below is a very basic set up drawing, from National Model Railroad Association.
When you purchase locomotives, is would be best if they are DCC ready, but you can learn how to make them DCC compatible.
