Hello all, looking for suggestions or recommendations. I've got a dear friend who is about to retire after 40+ years on the railroad and hes also into O gauge so I'd like to send him off with a retirement train set.
A brief history, he started on Amtrak in the M of W in 1976 I believe, (his wife is sending me the dates) , then in 79 he transferred to become an operator. In 1992 he went to work for Conrail as a dispatcher, and when Conrail was bought out he went to work for Norfolk Southern as a chief dispatcher.
Here's what I was thinking , I'd like to get him an Amtrak engine ( doesnt have to be anything fancy , O27, O, MPC, whatever) and renumber it to 1976.
Then an Amtrak passenger car I'd like to have renamed "Lancaster" and remembered to 1979 the year he became an opetator.
Then a Conrail Boxcar for the year he hired on there and maybe Mt Laurel on there somewhere.
Then an NS boxcar with the year of the takeover (1999).
I'd like to find a log dump car I could fill with cigars, his other passion.
Finally an NS caboose painted with 2019 and "Atlanta" as that is where he will finish out his career.
Here's where I need you guys, can anyone recommend someone to airbrush the car numbers and names on the cars, someone who wont want a hundred dollars per car?
Does anyone have any of the equipment above theyre looking to get rid of? I'll gladly pay but dont want to break the bank, if you do my email is :Jonathonpsullivan@hotmail.com
I was thinking of using Menards for some of the cars since the car numbers are decals and the could peel off and be painted or be replaced easily. Thoughts?
Thanks for the help guys.
Jon
