Hi all - I wonder if anyone has an idea about how to retrofit a smoke unit in a dummy B unit from 3rd Rail's latest issue of E7's.  Scott Mann tells me that these units do not have smoke but interior lighting; the A units on the other hand have TAS smoke units. Of course I am talking about the 3R TMCC versions.

I'm not bothered about the B unit having sound. Looking around I see that the Electric RR Company produces a board called Mini Commander EX which is advertised as specifically adapted for B units and can be used to control a smoke unit as well as directional lighting.  I have a couple of spare TAS smoke units one of which could be used for this project. Scott kindly offered to try to get a spare of his manufacturer's smoke funnel assembly, which is obviously a good deal more elaborate than the plastic funnels in my Lionel Legacy E7. The software on this ERR board is said to enable MU'ing with other TMCC engines, which is important for my purposes.

However I've no experience with this particular board or indeed a retrofit exercise of this kind.  Anyone either have experience of such a project or know of someone who could do it for me?

Thanks.

You can download the manual at ERR for the EX. looks pretty easy to me but I don't know what your skill level is.
I do see that the smoke unit goes where the back up light usually is and needs that kind of plug connector to work so you'd need to get that from Ken also.
34.95 is not a bad price though.
A little double sided tape to mount it and hot glue for the antenna and you'd be good to go.
