What run in the OGR did Ed Boyle do a story on the Rolling Rock cars? Thanks for your help. Dave

Dave,
Just saw your post. I recall doing a Collector's Gallery article that featured the diesel and the caboose that Weaver made for Rolling Rock. Don't remember one on Rolling Rock cars. Will have better answer for you tomorrow.
Ed
Ed, I think your title is misspelled in your profile. It is showing up incorrectly under your avatar.

Eric,
You are right. Thanks. I will fix it.
Ed
Ed,
You're welcome. I was just trying to help.

Perhaps Dave is thinking of the article on MTH’s Pittsburgh-themed trains? Anyway, I am looking for that article. Does anyone recall in which run that article appeared?
Thanks,
Bill
Bill,
That is it. Now I know what to look for in the back issues.
Thanks.

Just checked the three columns I wrote in 2005 and 2006 about special Pittsburgh
MTH diesel locomotives and rolling stock. There is no mention of Rolling Rock items in any of them.
However, they do describe Iron City MTH pieces. Going to check on the Weaver column and see if it mentions any rolling stock.

Ed, I was looking for info on the Latrobe Rolling Rock cars. I must be wrong about that being in the gallery. Maybe somebody knows what order they were made. The factory made some, the Chamber of Commerce made some. I was looking for the sequence if anybody kept up with those. Thank you very much for your help. Dave

Ed: What were the run dates of those special Pittsburghrolling stock columns in 2005 and 2006?
Thanks,
Bill

Dave:
Here’s a link to a search on the MTH website of their Rolling Rock items which will help you in determining the production sequence:
http://www.mthtrains.com/searc...?filters=type%3Aitem
All of the items listed have cataloged dates except for these three:
- the uncataloged #30-74463 box car which was the first car in the Latrobe Chamber of Commerce series and the only Rolling Rock car. I didn’t get mine until 2010 but believe it came out in 2006 or 2007 which probably explains why it was not in Ed’sPittsburghcolumns.
- the uncataloged 30-7860 reefer (“33&rdquo which is not pictured on the website and is perhaps the most desirable of all the MTH Rolling Rock cars. I’m not sure when it was produced but I believe it was before the Latrobe Car above. The 4-digit suffix also suggests it was issued earlier.
- the uncataloged 33-7406 Rugged Rails series box car which is also not pictured on the website
HTH,
Bill
That is a big help, Thank you all very much. Dave
Additional on the uncataloged MTH items:
- The uncataloged 30-74463 box car was produced in 2008 and was available through the Latrobe Chamber of Commerce.
- The uncataloged 30-7860 reefer was produced in 2003 and was available through the Latrobe Company Store.
- The uncataloged 33-7406 Rugged Rails box car was announced in 2003 but was canceled and never produced.
Weaver did 3 Rolling Rock items all available through the Latrobe Company Store:
- (Rolling) Rock Green Light reefer produced in 2004 and called the 3rd car in the series.
- Rolling Rock Extra Pale caboose produced in 2005 and called the 4th car in the series.
- Rolling Rock GP-38-2 Diesel produced in 2006.
Hope this helps.

Interesting. I've got a Rolling Rock box car from MTH that I bought back in 2005 or so that is still in the original shipping carton. It's never been out of the box. In fact, somebody posted the ordering information right here on the forum and I called the same day. Will have to go find it.
The MTH Product Reference Books I wrote give all the details on these Rolling Rock and other custom run cars produced.

MTH also did the uncataloged 30-7873 Loyalhanna Larger reefer later in 2003 again available from the Latrobe Company Store.
I would be very interested in more information about the 2005 MTH car you have.

Never been on the track.
But it's been on the table.
Mine's been under the table as well.
Nice looking car. Don't know about the blue though.
What the heck, that is when Rolling rock was truly the fruit of Old Latrobe.
Shame it is now another "shadow beer" made by Bud.
Ed Boyle
Having spent my whole life living within a half hour drive of Latrobe, it is indeed a shame what has happened to the brand. Around here, you used to see Rolling Rock in every bar and restaurant that served beer, as well as prominently displayed in every beer distributor. Now, it is as if the brand no longer exists around here. Many distributors around here stopped carrying it entirely.
I stopped buying the MTH offerings when references to Latrobe were dropped. I just wish I was collecting back when the early offerings and the Weaver stuff was being offered from the company store. I still see it at local shows, but always at inflated (to me) prices.
Andy
Andy,
You are absolutely correct. Besides that, the Passaic River is not actually the same as that famous"mountain spring water",probably that trout stream the Loyalhanna Creek. I have the original car plus the chamber car and the Loyalhanna car. Once I get a camera I'll post some photos of my local beer car collection.
I would like to see a Silver Top,Old Shay and Stoney's car to round out my collection.
