I received run 270 today and I have not been able to put it down. I think Jason Capra's W&LE is one of the nicest layouts I have ever seen. I love the fact that the scenery overpowers the track and trains. Weathering is absolutely stunning too. Great job Jason!

Also a shout out to Jim Barrett for the transom latches on the drop down doors. I plan to be waiting on my local hardware to open up Monday morning. Great fix for my layout door, Thanks Jim!

Wow! great issue OGR team!!

I liked run 270 also, including Jason Capra's layout.  Also the review of the WBB diesel - I had been interested for some time in how well their upgraded True Blast sound boards worked and the review covered that well.

And John Rapacz's article on Little Things, and his trick for using worn paint brushes on page 52 to make realistic looking tall grass?  Genius!  I love it.

I agree printed is only way to go.  I don't enjoy staring at screen all day to read articles except those that are "one shot forgets" (like news feeds, Fakebook, emails).  OGR print is great references.  Sure you can get the OGR on DVD with reference indexes etc, but to me nothing like magazine in hand especially since I often will put a post-it note on a page edge with note of what page is.  Try that with DVD.

I used to subscribe to Electronics magazine, but once they went all electronic, I dropped subscription.  Same for not getting Kindle and knockoff electronic books, once battery dies or memory fails, poof your book is gone and have to buy another copy, but a printed book is permanent.

Now getting off my soap box rant.

I haven't received #270 yet but in a long ago OGR Jim illustrated and described the piano-hinged, transom catch "Drop Gate" idea after seeing one in an Airport Barwhile awaiting a flight.Thankfully he was probably drinking ginger ale or we would not have enjoyed a functioning drop section.

His Backshop DVD #11 has some upgrades over the original, plus he illustrates a Lift Bridge mechanism.

My drop section is now recycled to its second layout.
