Thinking about getting a DCS commander box with a 100 watt power supply for my planned small layout (4 x 8 board with a 3 x5 yard board extension). I have questions. 1. I have 2 PS3 locos and one PS2 loco. Can I run all 3 simultaneously with this system? 2. I will have 5 or 6 K-Line O31 switches on the layout. Will this system run them? 3. Will I be able to run my old PS1 locos on this sytem? 4. Can I run old conventional Lionel MPC locos? Thanks.

I have 2 PS3 locos and one PS2 loco. Can I run all 3 simultaneously with this system?
Yes, you can.
2. I will have 5 or 6 K-Line O31 switches on the layout. Will this system run them?
No, it will not. The DCS Commander cannot connect to AIUs and therefore cannot operate any switch tracks or accessories.
3. Will I be able to run my old PS1 locos on this system?
Yes, however, not at the same time as your DCS engines.
4. Can I run old conventional Lionel MPC locos?
Yes, however, again not at the same time as your DCS engines.
It sounds as if the DCS Commander is a poor choice for what you want to do. A much better choice would be a DCS TIU, with either a DCS Remote; or with a DCS WIU and the Premium DCS App.
Everything that you need to know about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store! |

Thanks Barry. Your info is helpful. Now it seems I have to decide whether I want to power with mth z transformers and set up insulated blocks or get the DCS TIU.
