I still have my DCS training wheels on, but tonight I took another step and hooked up my new TIU for conventional operation for the first time. After making the connections, I put my prewar Lionel 263e Blue Comet on the track and took it for a spin. All I can say is wireless operation is just about the best thing to happen to my old trains in a very long time. What a fantastic blend of old and new. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it. Thanks again to Marty Fitzhenry for encouraging me to give DCS a try and for much-needed guidance. Great stuff.

John, you have discovered how much more fun walkaround control is.  Back around 2001, I nonly had conventional and wanted to try walkaround control.  My son knew this and gave me a TIU, remote, and more when DCS was first released.  Not having any DCS locos, I now had my walkaround control and freedom from a control panel.  Since then, the inevitable happened:  I over the years acquired 2 dozen DCS locos and never run my conventionals.

Wait until you get an AIU and start controlling switches.
