I just had to send out my ZW for overhaul so will be without it for several weeks. My grandson just loves running my twin-motored F3 and my 1033 does not have enough power to do so.
The only other transformer I have is an old RW but its throttle is very rough and the handle comes off because of the resistance of the wiper on the transformer coils.
Is there a type of lubricant (electrically conductive) that any of you can recommend for the transformer coils?

You should lube under the lever that turns at the switch itself, take the cover off of the transformer, put a couple drops of lubricant on the turn dial of the switch at the switch turning area and then turn it slowly and see if it frees up some. You may have to turn it a few times to loosen the handle on the little switch or re-apply some oil.

The transformer windings have to be insulated from each other as each one is at a different voltage. If you put something conductive on the coils it will short them out. That will be the end of your transformer.
Trade in your 1033 in on a LW transformer. You'll pay about $5 to 10 more and end up with a good transformer that has enough power to run your F3's. I picked up an LW for $25 on the 'Bay' a few months ago and put my old 1033 in a box under the layout.....never to be seen again.

To Lee Fritz, THANK YOU! In current vernacular, "D'OH!!" Why didn't I think of that?
A couple drops of oil in the shaft was all it took to free up the throttle so it turns easily. I don't need to lube the windings after all.

Oh yeah, good point! Any grease would bridge between the windings. Not good!
