My friend just bought this on the bay.  It was made in West Germany and the seller's description says it was an experiment by Karl Bub.  The seller said it was 1940's, but West Germany did not come into being until the 1950's.  Before that it was described as US/British/French Zone of Germany.  No idea if this was a one off or regular production, nor if there were any cars to go with it.  It says Bub and West Germany on the bottom.   It runs well and has an open frame DC motor.  Any one know anything about this?

They made some nice stuff, including a Pacific type.  The one my friend found was from a starter set.

thanks for that link...

a quick look around and found that one...interesting wise they even had a cog railway (must be pretty unique in tinplate) and in both S and 0
