Hello just a question on Santa Fe paint colors. 1 of the first engines I was ever given as a kid was a Lionel GP7 in bookend blue and yellow. Just curious why this scheme does not appear very often. I see the warbonnet and bluebonnet all the time but not the book end. Was it not very common in real life or do modelers not find it attractive? Thanks for any information

The bookend paint job began to appear on Santa Fe freight units in 1959, replacing the black and silver "Zebra Stripes." The bookend scheme remained the standard until 1972 when Santa Fe began repainting units and receiving new units the yellow warbonnet scheme.
These photos were shot in the Chicago area in 1975 and 1976, respectively.

Thanks Rusty. Hoping Lionel will offer this scheme again soon
Black/silver or black/white "zebra stripes" were the standard paint on ATSF hood units till 1959, when replaced by the blue/yellow bookend scheme, which lasted till 1972.
Freight F units were different had some kind of blue and yellow scheme the entire time on the ATSF.
"Book End" scheme. That's a new one on me.
