From what I recall Santa Fe and SP occasionally helped each other get stalled trains going on Tehachapi.....DaveB

You bet. On a mountain railroad -- especially on single track like Tehachapi -- where there is a trackage rights agreement, the tennant railroad and the owner railroad sometimes have to provide helper service to the other railroad.
Helping a foreign line train is outside the scope of normal duties and the crew which was helping got an extra day's pay. Have you received their penalty claims yet, Ron?

Yes, it sounds incredible. He did a heck of a job with it and shared a lot of great ideas with us.
