I just read a post from a little over a year ago in which the writer described how scale wheels dipped while going through a frog, but the hi rail wheels did not. I have also noticed how some locomotives can come with either type of wheel at the discretion of the purchaser. I must admit I am ignorant as to the difference in these wheels and whether or not they differ from you get out of the box on a ready to run train set. I would appreciate it if someone could explain this to me. Should I request High rail wheels whn buying a new locomotive? Thanks, Rich

It may depend on what track you use. You would be better using Highrail wheels if u use the older style tubular three rail track. High rail would describe what U get when U buy three rail equipment.

Scale wheels are basically for two rail as they have smaller flanges and are insulated for two rail use. They can work on most three rail track but that might confuse U? They'll dip into a frog that's not designed for their use.

 Hope that helps some?
