Does anyone know if scaletrax has clearance issues for scale wheels being low profile track. I have a MTH 20-3323-1 Hudson w/pt tender with hi-rail wheels & scullins. Won't run on tubular for sure. Starting a new 8x10 layout with 054 cuves since engine states 042. A email to MTH was zero help & I haven't bought track yet but was thinking of going scaletrax main street style, eliminate the 2 upper sidings & incorporate the lionel 305 hellgate with the 2 tracks. Read somewhere that tinplate flanges are larger & also may not go to well with low profile tracks. Thanks for any help or advice. John

John, I believe you'll be fine with ScaleTrax for your traditional/scale 3 rail O gauge equipment. Don't know for certain if O gauge tinplate wheels will work if that's what you're asking...

Why do you say that? MTH locomotives run as well as anything else on tubular track.

Scaletrax is 3 rail track system designed to operate three rail trains and it does so quite well. As a track system with a T head rail profile scale wheels (NMRA RP-25) will run well on the rail. But, like with other 3 rail track systems, four wheel trucks with scale wheels will dip and bounce through the switch frogs.
I did try this Hudson several times on tubular track, every time it started into a curve it jumped the track, this old set-up has 042 manual switches which was also a rough ride. Leaning towards the scaletrax for the new layout. what do you think of that product over gargraves or atlas?
John
I think your problem with tubular track is too tight a curve for the locomotive, and not anything specific to that style of track.

That, or another possibility is that the trackwork could be uneven, or at least uneven enough to cause the engine to derail.
Yes I agree that the curves are only the standard 031. My newer layout will have 2-054 loops to accommodate the scale engines. If I can squeeze in a outer of 072 that would be better. Thanks to all the replies. John
Looked into the ross a little bit & seems like good stuff. Trying to do something like the scaletrax main street set up to start with, wonder if the ross track would match up the same with the scaltrax list they have for that set-up. Used to run a lot of realtrax but switched it out for tubular since it doesn't stay together well & elect issues I had.
I had 320 sq ft of layout with Realtrax and 22 switches 0-31, 0-42 and 0-72. Worked out really well. NO PROBLEMS at all with it
