I do not have space for a roundhouse; was wondering if a transfer table could be a worthy option... Have any of you made one; the lionel model is not as appealing to me...

I had a very good fried of mine scratch build one for me and currently expanding the layout to incorporate it and a Millhouse 36 inch turn table.
MillHouse River Studios is working on one and should have a prototype at York

I believe a forum member has constructed one and had it featured in CTT about a year or two ago. I think he used a cordless screwdriver motor to drive it.
Perhaps someone else remembers a little more detail on this.

Here is my scratch built Transfer Table. It is quite easy to build and I used an inexpensive electric screwdriver coupled to a threaded rod to power the table. The October 2009 issue of Classic Toy Trains Magazine has detailed instructions on how I built it. A back issue is available here:
