Have a Lionel American Flyer engine and cannot get it to move. I operate in conventional mode. Engine is set to run. Engine board lights up. Cab light does not go on. Horn and bell work under power. Engine revs but does not move. Gears appear to be fine with no binding. Looking for suggestions. Thank you.

Gene, Have you ever run this engine in conventional mode?
You might try turning off the smoke unit on the locomotive and see if that affects the operation.

I’ve never run the engine at all. Bought it from a store in Boston. Got it home, put it on the track, turn power on and all I get is the number board lights, get all the legacy sounds and the revving of engine but the engine does not move. The interior cab lights do not go on. Horn and bell work fine.
I did turn off the smoke. Still nothing.
Gene,
Not sure if this will accomplish anything but maybe try flipping the into program, see what happens, if nothing, then slide run/program switch back and forth a couple times ending in run and apply power.

Don't forget that I posted a few days ago on another thread that a friend & myself have had loco's with the program-run switch having a wire not attached.

That is a new one on me, thank you Bob, definitely something to look at.

As l think about wiring on some of the earlier Flyonel products I recall while doing conversions on Polar Express coaches to LED lighting the connections to the trucks was something similar to silicone to hold in place the wires.
